Ecuador's Rivers
Ecuador has an amazing variety of rivers ranging from big volume Amazonian tributaries to steep, continuous creeks flowing down the Andes Mountains. Whether you are a Class III playboater, or a Class V expedition boater, there is something for everyone in Ecuador.
The easiest way to get a feel for the rivers of Ecuador and the layout of the whitewater drainages is to purchase a copy of the Kayaker's Guide to Ecuador.

As you are getting ready to paddle, definitely be paying attention to river levels. In general you want the creeks to be low (low for the riverbeds) when you paddle them. Most of Ecuador's creeks are very continuous and high water can make for some very stressful runs! The bigger volume rivers can handle more water, but if any river in Ecuador is bank full, don't do it!
